Meet the Team

Working for you.

Jacob Brandon

Curator and Co-Organiser

I have lived in Torquay for over 20 years but it is only recently that I have truly begun to appreciate it as a home to be celebrated for its innovation, unique heritage and significant cultural offer.

Having worked in Arts and Culture for 7 years, including managing a community art space for the past 4, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wealth of creative minds, curating a diverse range of exhibitions and arts events across Torbay and further afield.

As part of the organising team for the first ever TEDxTorquay event, I’m excited to be collaborating with some incredibly talented curators and programmers, as well as an exceptional line up of speakers in association with the TED ethos.

Marketing and Communications Coordinator and Co-Organiser of TEDx Torquay

I have worked within the Higher Education sector and Creative and Cultural Industries for almost 20 years. With a range of job titles under my belt including Project Manager, Marketing, Events and Programming Officer and Public Relations Executive, I’ve organised many public conferences and events, including a 42 day South West regional showcase with over 120 creative practitioners and organisations, as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad programme. I’m delighted to be involved in the English Riviera’s inaugural TEDx event and I’m very excited about the great line up of speakers and film screenings that form part of the day’s programme.

Born and bred within Torbay, I have a mixture of experience over various sectors but really find my passion with events.

Being able to be part of other events within the bay, really shows what the towns and the people within them have to offer the rest of the world. I have been fortunate enough to embrace the ‘geek’ in me and become part of comic con with being able to travel to the United States of America and be a celebrity manager to look after various voice over artists in popular animation childhood cartoons of the past, such as The Animaniacs and the present, like Blaze and the Monster Machines.

Recently, I have graduated with a BA in Leadership and Management and look forward to pursuing a full time career within the events sector and look to make Torbay a prominent place for events to held to potential clients.

As an avid TED fan I am excited to be part of the team organising the very first TEDxTorquay event in November. I love the enormous range of talks available from TED and being able to learn new things about subjects I previously had no idea about. The opportunity to spotlight people in local communities who have amazing ideas, and give them a global platform to speak from is fantastic.

Since childhood, I have always loved history, a passion that has led me into guiding and giving educational visits at Arundel Castle, conservation volunteering at the National Trust and sitting as a trustee on the board of a successful regional museum.

I returned to south Devon to complete an MA in History from the University of Exeter and am excited to be part of a like-minded band of people who want to bring TEDx to Torquay and spread ideas through such a highly regarded global community.

TEDx Torquay! How exciting, I am so glad to be a part of this team. 3 years in Torquay and what Torquay has to offer just keeps growing. I have a keen interest in community enriching events in Torquay which is why I have volunteered with TEDx.

Throughout my training and career, I have assisted in organising events in multi-faceted roles. I take a keen interest in photography and film, mainly developed from long standing voluntary and freelance projects. I hope that my skills and enthusiasm will support our event and help us share the TED message.
